A Weekend Workshop with Artist Nina Ruminska // November 19 + 20 // 10:00 - 17:00
During this 12-hour workshop we will learn how capture human head in an expressive way using soft materials. Participants will have a choice of material: sepia, sanguine, charcoal or graphite.
During the workshop we will:
Explore the characteristics of various soft materials: sepia, sanguine, charcoal, graphite
Prepare the surface; stretch paper onto a wooden board and apply the undertone
Learn about classical proportions of the head, construction and rules of composition
Prepare number of sketches from a live model
Draw one longer portrait study on a large format
Different techniques of drawing with soft materials will be demonstrated. A lot of examples of great drawings shown and discussed. Students will be encouraged to produce a number of sketches before completing one longer portrait study on a larger format.
This workshop is designed to equip students with looser hand and stronger observational skills. The course will be very useful for any portrait painters who would like to brush up their drawing skills.
Taught by classically trained artist Nina Ruminska. Suitable for all levels. Teaching will be tailored to participant’s individual needs.
